Uganda Cranes Player Wasswa Joins Saudi Arabian Club

Uganda Cranes assistant captain and versatile player Hassan Wasswa Mawanda has reached an agreement with Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad Jeddah.

Mawanda left the country (Uganda) on Monday for Saudi Arabia to complete his move and is expected to sign a contract not less than ten years.

The dreadlocked defender who can also play as a midfielder previously played for Egyptian top tier club Tala’ea El Gaish Sports Club.

Wasswa was part of the Uganda Cranes squad that took part in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt making it his second time to feature in the AFCON tournament after Gabon in 2017.

On the local basis, Mawanda has previously played for three Uganda Premier League clubs KCCA FC, Sports Club Villa, and Vipers Sports Club respectively.

He also played for Saint George (Ethiopia), Cape Town (South Africa), Karabükspor, Altay and Kayseri Erciyesspor all in Turkey.

Mawanda who is an assistant to Dennis Onyango also featured in Vietnam at Đồng Nai, Al-Shorta (Iraq), Al-Nejmeh (Lebanon) and lately at Tala’ea El Gaish in Egypt.

He has registered 76 caps to his name in the 13 years of football.
