Bayo Inspires 10-man Vipers past resilient Tooro United

StarTimes Uganda Premier League

Vipers SC 1-0 Tooro United

Forward Bayo Fahad was the difference as Vipers Sports Club edged a tricky Tooro United 1-0 on matchday two of the Uganda Premier League at the St Marys Stadium on Tuesday.

The off-season signing headed home a reflex off Rahmat Senfuka’s well-delivered free-kick with 13 minutes left on the clock.

Vipers finished with a numerical disadvantage when left-back Farouk Musisi got a send-off with a second bookable offense from referee Brian Miiro Nsubuga.

Tooro United was also disadvantaged technically when gaffer Wasswa Bbosa was given a direct red card by referee Nsubuga moments before they could immediately concede.

The guests had clear cut chances and scoring opportunities in the first phase but all their efforts were wasteful. Godfrey Lwesibawa had a shot collected by goalkeeper Fabien Mutombora before Steven Omvia missed clear attempts from close ranges.

Again Tooro United’s John Semazzi missed narrowly and second-half substitute Yafesi Mubiru was wasteful in the opponent’s box.

Before the Venoms could take the lead, Allan Kayiwa had gone through Tooro’s backline only to be denied by goalkeeper Crispus Kusiime.

The only awaited moment came in the 77th minute after Bayo headed far post a Senfuka free-kick from the right-wing leaving goalie Kusiime helpless despite stretching wide.

The Venoms now recorded the second win in the season after their Saturday 1-3 away victory against Bright Stars at Wankulukuku.
