Shabena late strike guides Express to first season win

  • Mbarara City 2-3 Express

Daniel Shabena strike in the added time inspired Express FC to a 2-3 victory on the road against Mbarara City at the Luzira Prisons playground on Tuesday.

Express had gone three games winless in this season and the narrowly win created a lifeline for coach George Simwogerere.

Mbarara City went into the lead after 42 minutes when defender Hilary Mukundane slotted home past goalkeeper Adea Joshua.

Two minutes later, Express new signing Nsubuga Hamdan equalized for the Red Eagles and both teams went into recess with equal scores.

After the break, Frank Kalanda put Express ahead with a cool strike past Mbarara’s goalie in the 65th minute thanks to Dissan Galiwango’s donkey work.

Jude Semugabi rose on the occasion and drew matters on the level with nine minutes to time thanks to an assist from Segujjja Swalik.

In the first minute of the three added in the game, former BUL FC forward Shabena restored Express’ lead with a clinical finish making the final score 2-3 away from home.

Next for Express is SC Villa while Mbarara City will play Vipers away from home.
