Togo is fast becoming the bogey team for Nigeria after the Togolese Hawks defeated the B team of the Super Eagles 2-1 on Sunday.
The winning goal for the Togolese was a goal by Nigeria.
It was the second defeat of the Nigerian team by the Togolese within a week having fallen 4-1 in the first leg of the last qualifying stage for the 2020 African Nations Championship.
Sunday match was in WAFU Competition and the defeat raised serious doubts about the team’s ability to wipe off a 4-1 deficit when it faces Togo again in October.
The win makes Togo advance to the quarter-finals while Nigeria is relegated to classification matches which winner will get a plate.
Togo took off from where they stopped a week earlier in Lome by scoring an early goal in Senegal. But Sikiru Alimi leveled up for Nigeria before an own goal sent Nigeria out of title race.
