Arms Around Africa Soccer Academy 2-0 Wolves Soccer Academy
The second edition of the Arms Around Africa Soccer Gala was successfully held on Saturday 9th November at the Officer’s Meesi Kataka ground in Makindye.
For starters, the Arms Around Africa Soccer Gala season Two was organised by the incumbent member of parliament representing the Kampala Women Parliamentary Constituency Hon Naggayi Nabila Sempala.
Hon. Naggayi is also the founder and owner of the Arms Around Africa Foundation, a Non Government Organisation that owns the Arms Around Africa Soccer Academy.
The gala held was played under two age categories, Under 14 and Under 16 respectively with a total of 20 teams that took part in the event from the Kampala Constituency.
The event was graced by Hon Naggayi as the guest of Honour who hosted Sayce Holmes and Jamal Jarrett from the United Kingdom (England).
When addressing the public and the media, Hon. Naggayi Sempala urged the young players to showcase their talent and get opportunities to play professional football.
We are here to see that our talent moves to the next level. I extend my sincere gratitude and joy to have our visitors from England in Uganda and we hope to have the best from them. I therefore encourage all the participants in this gala to showcase their talent and have a chance to be spotted by our guests who will provide a chance to outstanding players to play from England.”
After a successful day, Big Talent Soccer Academy put 5-0 past Miracle Soccer Academy to clinch the championship in the U-14 while Arms Around Africa Soccer Academy defeated Wolves Soccer Academy 2-0 to triumph in the U-16 category respectively.
Jamal Jarrett, the Assistant Head of Academy Recruitment at English Premier League side Crystal Palace FC advised the players never to give up and work hard to achieve their goals.
We want to assist the technically gifted players with good characters in developing their talent. My advise to the young players is never give up and nothing will happen without God’s grace. I encourage them to keep working hard because provisions will be in place that will see them leave to be in areas that will help them to be good professionals from Uganda.”
Said Jarrett who doubles as the Co-founder of Lambeth Tigers Football Academy based in the UK.
The champions of the two age categories were awarded gold medals and a trophy while runners up went back home with silver medals.
Sayce Holmes Lewis a founder and Chief Executive Officer of Mentivity urged the government to invest much in education as football can’t be played effectively without qualifications.
If you want to become a professional player u have to push yourself and I urge the Ugandan government to invest much in education and give them opportunity to acquire knowledge because football is nothing without education.
Holmes also doubles as the Co-owner and Head of Coaching at City of London FC.
His academy brought into limelight professional players like Jadon Sancho (Borrusia Dortmund), Tammy Abraham (Chelsea), Ademora Lukeman (Red Bull), Jordan Ibe (formerly at Liverpool) and others.
