The third edition of the Decode Annual Chess Championship officially kicked off on Saturday 20th July 2019 at Silver Spoon Primary School in Kibuli.
This year’s two-day edition is scheduled to end on Sunday 21st July with different prizes up for grab by different winners in respective categories.
For starters, the 2019 edition of the Decode Annual Chess Championship attracted 24 schools that provided over 412 participants.
Of the participating schools, 18 are from the primary level while the championship has six secondary schools contesting in different categories.
While in an exclusive interview with the tournament Director Sabayinda Sammy, he remarked on the positivities of the championship and anticipates stiff competition.
“We are delighted to host this year’s edition of Decode Annual Chess Championship. It is the third to host a championship of such a kind and we expect stiff competition from all players.”
“On Sunday, the championship will climax with the awards giving ceremony for different winners and we are looking forward to having a successful event.”
Added Sabayinda who also serves as the Managing Director of Decode Chess Academy that hosted this championship.
Day one climaxed on Saturday with four rounds of the eight rounds meant for this maiden championship.
The categories to be contested are Under Eight (U8), Under Ten (U10), Under Twelve (U12), Under Fourteen (U14), and Under Sixteen (U16) respectively.
Different prizes like trophies, medals, certificates, and calendars will be awarded to different winners.
