Greek side Apollon Pontou close to signing versatile player Sendi

Ugandan born versatile player Ian Sendi is close to joining Super League 2 side Apollon Pontou Football Club in Greece, Thessaloniki according to reliable sources.

Sendi a Ugandan professional soccer player who currently plays for FC Minneapolis in the United Premier Soccer League of the United States has been part of the club since 2014.

The 29-year old versatile striker and attacking midfielder has been on the transfer radar of various Greek outfits for the last three months.

Sendi who is under 11 Soccer Management, a Germany based soccer agency was previously linked to another Greek side in the second division but the deal failed to materialize after both parties failed to agree on certain working terms.

According to a reliable source in the USA which preferred anonymity, the interested club has therefore sent in their offer which is currently being reviewed by both the player and his management before a final decision can be reached.

Throughout all these transfer speculations, James Ade Oluranti who currently coaches at FC Minneapolis and a former Nigerian international has been very firm on his recommendation for the 29 year old Ugandan.

Oluranti confirmed that Sendi is yet to sign an official contract with any professional club elsewhere and FC Minneapolis is ready to release him should a worthy opportunity be presented that is acceptable to all parties concerned.

Currently FC Minneapolis is working to finalize a deal with 18 year old Liberian striker Lasana F. Konneh from Srimex Football Club in Monrovia Liberia who is sighted to be Sendi’s perfect replacement.

The club also looks at re-recruting Ugandan midfielder Michael Ssekitoleko, and former Mbarara City SC forward Nathaniel Atamba on a one year deal this spring.

In addition, FC Minneapolis has reached a new understanding with Layton Blair and the Jamaican midfielder is expected to arrive in the United States early April before he can resume training with the first team ahead of the 2020 summer season.
