“He is an inspiration to the National team” – Katikkiro hails ‘Mr Safe Hands’ Onyango

The Katikkiro of Buganda Owek Charles Peter Mayiga hosted Uganda Cranes captain Dennis Onyango Masinde at Bulange, Mengo on Friday.

This was after Onyango’s heroics in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt where he displayed brilliance.

During his remarks in a press briefing held at Kabinett Room in Bulange, the Katikkiro Mayiga declared himself as Onyango’s number one fan and lauded him for the brilliant performance showed in Cairo.

“I’m very glad to meet our captain Dennis Onyango.

He said,

“He is the inspiration for the National Team, the players, and soccer in general in Uganda and Africa at large.

He added.

“In the recent past, went on the international scene as far as soccer is concerned and notably when Onyango went on the podium with Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane. I’m very proud of his achievements and I wish him luck in the future.”

Remarked Owek Mayiga as he was addressing the media.

Onyango, the Cranes skipper, and Africa’s best custodian felt honored for the special recognition from the Katikkiro and thanked him for the support towards the National team.

“As the captain of the Uganda Cranes, I’m honored to be here with my number one fan the Katikkiro of Buganda Owek Charles Peter Mayiga. On behalf of the entire Uganda Cranes team, we are proud of the support from all individuals, support and inspiration from. All Ugandans.

“Football is life where sometimes things so well and at times they fail but you have to keep going.”

Said ‘Mr. Safe Hands’ Onyango.

He (Onyango) presented his Mamelodi Sundowns and Uganda Cranes authentic Jerseys as special gifts to the Katikkiro as a sign of appreciation.

Onyango was instrumental as Uganda Cranes went past group stages of Africa’s biggest showpiece before falling to finalists Senegal on the round of 16.

He features for the ABSA Premier League champions Mamelodi Sundowns and inspired them to the 2018-2019 Premier Soccer League triumph.
