Kawanda SS confirmed hosts of UMEA Solidarity Games 8th Edition

For the 3rd time in the history, Kawanda Secondary School will host the 8th edition of the Uganda Moslem Education Association (UMEA) games.

The 8th edition of the championship will take place during the Easter Weekend from the 9th-13 the April 2020.

This will be the third time that Kawanda SS will be hosting the games after 2005 and 2011 respectively and the new development was confirmed on Tuesday morning in a press briefing by the school’s Head Mistress Hajjat Hadija Nassali Kiweewa.

“We are honoured to have been given another chance to host UMEA games. We have seen so many leaping big from the talent, and we want to give the students a platform.”

Said Mrs. Nassali.

“We have confirmed over four sports grounds, gazetted fields for the different sports and we have prepared our students to compete favourably because we target to take the overall trophy.

She added.

Kawanda SS were the winners of Handball last year but finished in the 4th position, their overall performance having won two silver medals in the whole 2019 championship.

Mbogo Mixed are the defending champions of the UMEA games who won three medals (2 gold and One silver) ahead of Kakungulu and Kawempe Muslim SS who finished in the second and third respectively.

Hajji Twahil Kitezaala, the chairperson of the Uganda Moslem Education Association games organising committee confirmed the venues that will host the different games.

“We want to promote Moslem secondary schools, unity among Moslem schools and entertainment which is the main objective of this year’s Championship.

Six sports disciplines Football, Volleyball, Netball, Handball, Badminton and Table Tennis will be competed in while Woodball is another sport in the pipeline which might be added on the menu to have demonstration games.

The different pitches confirmed to host the games are Namalele Research Institute, Mbogo Mixed SS playground, Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium, Kiteezi playground and Kawempe Muslim.

45 Boys football teams have confirmed participation in the championship from the 36 that featured last year while 35 Netball teams will take part in the event from the 26 that represented last year.
