Uganda emerged the biggest winners of day one of the ongoing 2019 COPA aCoca-Cola Africa Cup.
The team emerged 11-2 winners over Namibia in their first game, then triumphed 4-0 in the replay in a contest aimed at finding out which team will top the group after Ethiopia failed to show up.
In the second game against Namibia, Abasi Kyeyune opened the goal scoring proceedings for Uganda imn the 7th minute before Najabu Kigunzi doubling their lead in the 23rd minute as they raced to a 2-0 lead at half time.
Kyeyune scored Uganda’s third and his second of the afternoon a minute after resumption before Trevis Mutyaba closing the goals in the 48th minute.
“We knew we had to be at our best to make it to the next stage and it was going to be harder since we didnt have enough rest between the first and the second match. That temporarily killed our momentum but we still managed to show character and produce the goods.”
Explained an elated Abasi Kyeyune.
Hosts Kenya, and an impressive Zimbabwe side progressed to the last eight stage of the Copa Coca Cola Africa 2019 tournament on day one of the tournament.
Zimbabwe produced the shock result of the tournament, silencing the tournament defending champions Kenya 3-1 in an entertaining tie that was capped with a hat-trick from Luke Musiriki.
Kenya needed a response in the second game so as to avoid the embarrassment of suffering early elimination.
Against Mozambique, Fredrick Onyango starred, bagging a first half hat trick to seal the emphatic result.
“I am more impressed with the character of my boys as compared to the performance. To lose the first game and then bounce back after a couple of minutes and win convincingly says something. I hope we will recover in time for tomorrows assignments.

Tanzania and Zambia were the other winners of what was a busy day of thrilling football action.
