Uganda Cranes AFCON performance is a bigger achievement – Airtel’s Somasekhar

On Friday 12th July, Uganda Cranes official sponsors Airtel Uganda officially welcomed the National Football team back from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The welcoming event was wrapped up in the dinner organized by Uganda’s biggest telecommunication network at the Kampala Serena Hotel.

The Airtel Uganda Managing Director V.G Somasekhar presided over the glorious event alongside FUFA representative Rogers Byamukama, Uganda Cranes players and representative from the National Council of Sports.

During his remarks at the dinner, Airtel’s Managing Director Somasekhar was delighted with the performance exhibited by the players and pledged to continuously support the National team and Ugandan sports in general.

“We want to celebrate the bigger achievement we got from the Africa Cup of Nations. Special thanks to the players, coaches, and everyone who contributed to the team’s success and reached the round of 16,”

“As Airtel Uganda, we are married to football in general and Uganda Cranes and we promise to put Uganda on top of the map. “

He added.

The Uganda Cranes were eliminated from the round of 16 by Senegal’s Lions of Terranga thanks to Sadio Mane’s strike.

The Cranes had progressed to the knockout stage in the second position with four points below group leaders and hosts Egypt.

Dennis Onyango Masinde, the Uganda Cranes captain lauded Airtel, FUFA, NCS, and his teammates for the collective efforts towards the team’s success.

“I thanks Airtel, FUFA, NCS, and the government for the support towards the development of the National team. I thank my teammates for the togetherness from day one even when we were knocked out.

“I’m honoured to be part of the team and we shall continue to move together with Airtel.

The players who were present on the dinner are Onyango, Isaac Muleme, Emmanuel Okwi, Farouk Miya, Allan Kateregga, Taddeo Lwanga, and Joseh Ochaya.

“It is prestigious to work with Airtel and as FUFA we support you and the Uganda Cranes and we shall leave to working harder for project 2026 and the next AFCON qualification. “

Apart from the National team Uganda Cranes, Airtel injects Millions of money in the Masaza Cup competition and Airtel Rising Stars tournament.

FUFA Communications Manager Ahmed Hussein Marsha, FUFA Marketing Manager Esther Musoke, Airtel’s Head of Marketing Remmy Kisaakye, press and individual guests were other people present on the event.
