Vipers edge Nyamityobora to move on top

Vipers SC 1-0 Nyamityobora FC

Vipers SC recorded the third consecutive win of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League season after a 1-0 against Nyamityobora at the St Mary’s stadium on Saturday.

Dan Serunkuma scored the only goal in the first half of the game that the Venoms needed to maintain their winning streak past Abanyakare.

Nyamityobora had a scoring chance in the 4th minute when John Wesley Kisakye shot was cleared by Mulondo Livingstone off the goal line to deny the visitors a lead.

Veteran striker Dan Serunkuma put Vipers in the lead when he placed far post Moses Waiswa efforts that left goalkeeper Jomi Hilary with no saving chance whatsoever.

A minute past the celebrations, Jomi Hilary denied the Venoms a double lead after making a spackling save from a Yayo Lutimba stunner that went into corner to break off in a 1-0 result.

In the second half, Patrick Gonahasa failed to level matters from Jerry Jakisa’s donkey work which was blocked to produce a goal kick in the 56th minute.

In the 74th minute, Jomi Hilary came to another rescue of the visitors when he denied Dan Serunkuma a second scoring opportunity with a one on one.

The hosts was more solid in defense and managed to maintain their lead upto the final whistle that saw them claim the third win in a row.

In the game, Taddeo Lwanga and Frank Tumwesigye got booked for the Venoms while Ebong Lameck and Ivan Mbowa got were shown yellow cards for the visitors’ side.

Vipers made several changes with Brian Nkuubi, Noah Wafula and Frank Tumwesigye replacing Moses Waiswa, Tito Okello and Duncan Senninde.

Also Nyamityobora FC made changes after Ivan Mbowa, Patrick Gonahasa and Charles Sebutinde paved way for Derrick Kiggundu, Charles Musiige and Martin Arinaitwe.

The win brought Vipers SC on top of the table with nine points while Nyamityobora FC remained pointless in the second last.

Vipers SC will play their next league match with rivals SC Villa away from home at the Mandela National stadium while Nyamityobora will take on Mbarara City.
